This song was written in response to the horrific school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT, on December 14, 2012. For two weeks from the day of the shooting, all I could do was watch the news coverage while crying my eyes out. I prayed and prayed and asked God what He had to say about it, and this song came about as a result of those prayers. I'm not someone who can settle for tragedy having the final say. I have to always believe there is some hope that can be found when we're in the darkest ash heap. It is dedicated to any parent who has lost a child. I hope this blesses you.

Lyrics

Let Me embrace you now
As you embraced them all their years
Let My comfort fill your heart
Just as you wiped away their tears

You’ve poured out your heart
On the children I gave you
Please don’t let any guilt
Or sorrow enslave you

It was My good pleasure
To entrust them to your care
In all your moments together
I was with you there.

Thank you for loving them
Each kiss you gave,
Each warm embrace,
Was like
Heaven caressing them –
An angel sent
To touch their face

Thank you for showing them
That Love is what
They’re created for
You loved like Me – Abundantly
They felt it all
Down to the core

Because you loved so well
It helped them know that I am here
You did what I would do –
Protected them, fought off their fears.

I know what it’s like
To lose a precious child
In a senseless, unjust death
To a world that’s cruel and wild.

I’ve experienced such pain
So I’d be with you in yours
I can’t say life will be easy,
But My love can restore
Hear My words as I tell you

Thank you for loving them
Each kiss you gave,
Each warm embrace,
Was like
Heaven caressing them –
An angel sent
To touch their face

Thank you for showing them
That Love is what
They’re created for
You loved like Me – Abundantly
They felt it all
Down to the core

Because you loved so well
It prepared them for the day
They’d meet Me face-to-face
And I’d carry them away

To a new life with Me
Can you trust they’re in My care
They’re safe and they’re free
There’s no darkness, no despair!
Their smiles and their laughter
Shine brighter than before
Can you entrust them to Me,
And let My arms embrace you more?

Thank you for loving them
Preparing them
To be with Me
I’ll carry on
What you began-
I’ve grabbed the baton
You put in My hand;

Oh thank you for showing them
My love is what
They’re made for;
Eternally now they’re here with Me
Sharing in My love
Forevermore, forevermore!
